Recipe Tip
If you’re making this Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie for the first time, a helpful tip is to keep an eye on the pie as it bakes. The filling can go from set to overcooked quickly. Bake it until the filling is just set with a slight jiggle in the center. If you notice the edges of the crust browning too fast, cover them with foil to prevent burning. This way, you’ll get a perfectly gooey and delicious pie every time!
Recipe FAQs
What type of dark chocolate is best for this recipe?
For the best flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate with at least 60% cocoa. You can use chocolate chips or chopped bars. We used Dove dark chocolate.
How do I know when the pie is done?
The pie is done when the filling is mostly set with a slight jiggle in the center. It will continue to firm up as it cools.
Can I make this pie ahead of time?
Yes, you can make the pie up to 2 days in advance. Store it at room temperature or in the fridge, and let it come to room temperature before serving.
What can I use instead of corn syrup?
You can substitute with maple syrup, honey, or agave syrup, but this may slightly alter the flavor and texture.
Storage Tips
SERVE: After the pie has cooled completely, it can be kept at room temperature up to 2 hours. After that, it will need to be refrigerated.
STORE: You can store the pie in the fridge for up to 5 days as long as it is in an airtight container or wrapped tightly with saran wrap.
FREEZE: Wrap the pie tightly with tin foil and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
TO REHEAT: Place the pie in a 250-degree F oven for about twenty minutes or until heated through.

Recipe Variations:
- If you have a stellar homemade crust recipe that you love, then use it here instead of using a frozen crust.
- Instead of dark chocolate, you can use semi-sweet, milk, and even white! If you want to be super fancy, pick three different kinds and use all of them in the pie!
- Serve the pie with some vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie
Equipment
- mixing bowl
- whisk
- wire rack
Ingredients
- 9 inch deep-dish frozen pie crust thawed for 20 minutes
FILLING:
- 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- ¾ cup dark brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole pecans
- 6 ounces Dove dark chocolate bar chopped into small pieces
FOR SERVING:
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
Instructions
- Move oven rack to lower-middle position and preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Re-crimp the edges of the thawed pie crust (I like to do this to give the pie more of a “homemade” look). This is optional
MAKE FILLING:
- In a medium bowl whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, salt, eggs, corn syrup, and vanilla. Fold in pecans and chocolate pieces.
- Pour filling into pie crust.
- Bake the pie for 25 minutes, and then remove the pie from the oven, and cover it with foil. Put the pie back into the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until filling is set and jiggles ever so slightly.
- Place pie on a wire rack, and cool to room temperature for 4 hours.
- Slice and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
