Frozen Smoothie Packs Recipe Tips
I love keeping smoothie packs on hand for busy mornings, but since I can’t always make it to Costco, I started making my own version at home. Along the way, I picked up a few helpful tricks that I’m excited to share with you.
1. Prep freezer packs ahead of time. I like to portion the berries, greens, and banana into freezer bags so I can just add juice and dump the bag into the blender on busy mornings.
2. Use ripe bananas. The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie.
3. Use a high-speed blender for the best results. A good blender is what really gives the smoothie that smooth, creamy texture.
4. Add Chia seeds. The Costco Smoothie packs do not include Chia seeds, but I like to add them for extra nutritional value.
Ingredients & Estimated Cost:
Here is everything you need to make these smoothie packs, along with a few substitution recommendations.

- Blueberries (1 cup – $1.50) – Use fresh or frozen blueberries.
- Strawberries (1 cup – $1.25) – If using fresh strawberries, slice them before freezing to make blending easier.
- Raspberries (1 cup – $1.75) – You can use blackberries as an alternative.
- Kale (½ cup – $0.50) – Add additional spinach if you do not have kale.
- Spinach (½ cup – $0.50) – A mild flavor that adds nutrients to the smoothie packs.
- Banana (1 large – $0.25) – Slice the banana for easier blending. A mango works as a substitute if needed.
- Apple juice (3 cups – $0.75) – Use orange juice or almond milk if you do not have apple juice.
- Chia seeds (¼ cup – $0.75) – Flaxseed can be used as an alternative.
The recipe cost is calculated based on the required amounts and may vary due to fluctuating grocery prices.
