Chex Party Mix is an easy and versatile recipe that is always a party favorite. It’s buttery, it’s savory, and it’s every bit delicious.

This Party Mix comes together easily with the perfect blend of sweet and salty from the Chex cereal, nuts, and pretzels. Of course, the buttery topping that is then added on doesn’t hurt this snack either.

We enjoy making this for after-school snacking, road trips, game-day parties, holiday get-togethers, pot-lucks, movie nights, and any other reason. 

Our Chex Party Mix recipe can be made ahead of time, stores well, you can easily customize it to your preferences, and is budget-friendly. Add to that the pure deliciousness of a handful of this snack, and it quickly becomes one snack everyone will love for lots of different reasons!

Party Mix has become a popular snack full of various sweet and salty ingredients mixed in one large bowl. It is typically served as an appetizer during a football game or other family gathering. 

What is in a party mix?

This is a recipe that you see a lot on the internet, so there are many variations. Our favorite combination includes Chex Cereal, pretzels, nuts, and a few different spices with butter and Worcestershire sauce. 

How long will Chex Mix stay fresh?

Store the Chex Party Mix in an airtight container at room temperature, and it will stay fresh for 4-6 weeks. 

How to make Chex Party Mix recipe: 

STEP ONE:  First, preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Then, in a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. 

STEP TWO: Next, whisk in Worcestershire sauce and spices. Set this bowl aside.

STEP THREE: Using a large bowl, mix the cereal, pretzels, and nuts. Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and mix well.

STEP FOUR: Finally, spread the snack mix onto a baking sheet and bake for 35-40 minutes. Allow to cool on a wire rack before enjoying.

The Flavor and Recipe Variations

  • You can use pretzel sticks instead of twists or balls. 
  • Instead of pretzels, you can use Goldfish or Cheez-It crackers. 
  • While mixed nuts are our favorite, feel free to use any variety of nuts.

How long is it good for:

Serve: After the Party Mix has cooled after baking, pour it into a large bowl to serve immediately. 

Store: Store the Chex Party Mix in an airtight container at room temperature, and it will stay fresh for 4-6 weeks.

Freeze: Place the mix in a freezer-safe bag, and the mix will stay fresh for 4-6 months. 

How to get the kids involved with this Chex Mix recipe:

Ages 2-3: Have your little one help measure and pour the cereal, pretzels, and nuts into a large bowl. Have them count the cups as they pour them in to practice those repetitive math skills. 

Ages 4-5: Let your child pour the butter mixture over the cereal, pretzel, nut mixture, and mix them. They can then assist you in spreading it on the baking sheet. 

Ages 6-8: Teach your child to use the microwave to help you melt the butter. They can then mix in the Worcestershire and spices with the butter. 

Ages 9-11: Supervise them while they prepare the entire recipe. Remember to have them read it twice before beginning the recipe. 

Ages 12+: Let them prepare the entire recipe, unsupervised, while you do the happy dance in the corner!

Ingredients

BUTTER COATING:

  • 8 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

CHEX MIX:

  • 2 cups Rice Chex Cereal
  • 2 cups Corn Chex Cereal
  • 2 cups Wheat Chex Cereal
  • ¾ cup pretzel rounds
  • ¾ cup mini pretzels
  • 1 ½ cup mixed nuts

Instructions

PREHEAT OVEN:

  • Move the oven rack to the middle position and preheat to 300 degrees F.

MAKE BUTTER COATING:

  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter.
  • Whisk in Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.

MAKE CHEX MIX:

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix cereal, pretzels, and nuts.
  • Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and toss until combined.
  • Spread the snack mix onto a rimmed baking sheet.

BAKE:

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, stir and rotate the pan halfway through baking.

COOL AND SERVE:

  • Remove the Chex mix from the oven and cool on a wire rack until completely cooled. Serve.
