Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the butter, sugar, and buttermilk. Whisk occasionally while the mixture comes to a rapid boil.
  • Once a boil is reached, whisk constantly for 3 minutes.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and add the vanilla and baking soda, whisking constantly until incorporated. The mixture will bubble up slightly when the baking soda is added.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

Serve: As with most recipes with dairy products in them, you shouldn't leave this syrup out for longer than 2 hours.
Store: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Freeze: Store in an airtight container in the freezer for 3 to 4 months
