- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter cut into 1/4-inch pieces
- 1 cup buttermilk
Move the oven rack to the middle position and preheat the oven to 425 degrees Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the butter and use your hands to mix the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour in the buttermilk and use a sturdy wooden spoon to stir everything together until combined but DO NOT OVERMIX!
Use a 4 Tablespoon scoop to scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Space the dough about 2-3 inches apart.
Use light pressure to flatten the dough mounds slightly with your fingertips.
Bake for 13-15 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through baking. The biscuits should be golden brown.
Cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
To Freeze: If you want to freeze these biscuits, then I recommend preparing the recipe through step 6 below. Then, pop the baking sheet with the biscuit dough into the freezer and freeze until solid, about 2-3 hours. Then, remove the biscuits from the freezer and place them in a freezer Ziploc bag. The frozen dough will keep for about 3 months in the freezer.
