Equipment

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet
  • whisk
  • small mixing bowl
  • pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 2 9-inch pie crusts
  • ½ cup strawberry jam
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup rainbow sprinkles

Instructions

PREP OVEN:

  • To prepare the pop tarts, begin by moving the oven rack to the middle position.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

PREP PIE CRUSTS:

  • Roll out both sheets of pie crust on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut the pie crust into 3x4-inch rectangles.

ASSEMBLE POP TARTS:

  • On half of the rectangles, spread a small amount (about 1-2 tablespoons) of strawberry jam using a spoon.
  • Wet the edges of the topped rectangles with water, and place one of the remaining rectangles on top of each strawberry-topped rectangle to create six pop tarts.
  • Use a fork to crimp the edges of the pop-tarts.

BAKE POP TARTS:

  • Bake the pop tarts for 10 minutes or until the tops turn golden brown.
  • Allow the pop tarts to cool in the fridge for 10 minutes while you prepare the vanilla glaze.

MAKE GLAZE:

  • Whisk together the milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and runny.

TO FINISH:

  • Remove the pop tarts from the fridge and top each one with vanilla glaze using a pastry brush or spoon.
  • Finally, add sprinkles on top of each pop tart. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • The step of chilling the pop tarts in the fridge is crucial because it cools them down sufficiently, preventing the glaze from running off.
  • For neater edges, I recommend using a pastry brush to apply the glaze, although a spoon will also work.
  • To achieve the classic pop tart texture, using jam is recommended. However, if you prefer some whole fruit in your pop tarts, you can use preserves without affecting the recipe.
  • If you have a preferred pie crust recipe, you can use that instead of store-bought pie crust. Note that the cooking time may need to be adjusted based on your pie crust recipe.
