Mummy Wrap Pizza Calzone
In this recipe, we take an ordinary tube of pizza dough and an everyday calzone recipe and turn it into something SPOOKTACULAR! This Mummy Wrap is similar to our BBQ Chicken Braid, but with all your favorite pizza toppings wrapped up inside the dough and topped with eyes to turn it into a mummy.
You can even use the dough recipe from our BBQ Chicken Braid with this calzone or use store-bought pizza dough instead. Doing this will save your budget a little bit.
A calzone is like a folded pizza or a pizza pocket that safely holds all those yummy toppings and fillings. These are a mess-free meal for the youngest of hands to the oldest. Easy to eat at home, on a picnic, or at a party.
Is calzone dough the same as pizza dough?
Yes! The pizza crust is the same type of bread dough whether you roll it out flat, braid it, or fold it over.
What is inside a calzone?
You can fill a calzone with all sorts of toppings! You can fill it with things such as pepperoni, cheese, veggies, sausage, ham, pineapple, and marinara sauce.

STEPS FIVE AND SIX: Then, starting at the bottom, wrap the calzone, overlapping the dough as you work your way to the top. Finally, brush egg wash over the pizza dough. Bake for 25-30 minutes and let cool for 5 minutes. Slice black olives for the mummy eyes and serve.

The Flavor and Recipe Variations
Use different toppings each time you make this to mix it up. From ham and pineapple to sausage and green bell peppers, the options are limitless.
How long is it good for:
Serve: As with most recipes, you shouldn’t leave pizza calzone out for longer than 2 hours.
Store: Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Just note that the longer it sits in the fridge, the soggier it will get.
Freeze: Wrap the calzone in 2 layers of foil or plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag. You may need to cut the pizza calzone in half to get it to fit in the bag. To reheat: Thaw and then place in a 350 F oven for 20 minutes or until heated through.
How to get the kids involved with this recipe:
Ages 2-3: Have your little one brush the egg wash onto the dough. They will also love being able to put the “eyes” (black olives) onto the mummy.
Ages 4-5: Let them spoon the sauce down the middle and place the toppings on the sauce.
Ages 6-8: Teach them to roll out the dough and then cut it into strips. They can also overlap the dough to form the mummy wrap.
Ages 9-11: Supervise them while they prepare the entire recipe. Remember to have them read it twice before beginning the recipe.
Ages 12+: Let them prepare the entire recipe, unsupervised, while you do the happy dance in the corner!
