Homemade Buttermilk Syrup
Do you find yourself struggling each year to find the perfect gift to give friends and neighbors different from a plate of cookies but won’t break the bank? The struggle is real! But the recipe we are sharing with you today will take away that struggle.
Homemade buttermilk syrup is a delicious gift everyone will love. I made it for my neighbors last year, and they still mention it to me a year later! One neighbor said he is already counting down the days until I make this year’s batch!
Growing up, whenever my mom made this buttermilk syrup recipe it felt like such a treat. It would take our pancakes to the next level and made the meal feel a little fancier.
My mom’s best friend gave her the recipe, and my mom thought it sounded weird but decided to give it a try anyway. I am so glad she did! My mom said she loved it so much the first time she made it. She was practically drinking it.
Make this buttermilk syrup recipe for your friends and neighbors, and they will think you are the best! My kids love buttermilk syrup just as much as I did when I was their age and often literally cheer out loud when they see I have made it!
I am glad this homemade buttermilk syrup is making its way through the next generation. After you make it once, you will find yourself making it throughout the rest of the year.
Can you freeze buttermilk syrup?
If you have any leftover syrup (not very likely, LOL!), you can place it in an airtight container and freeze it to preserve it.
How do you make buttermilk from regular milk?
For every 1 cup of milk that you will be using, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar. Mix together, and you now have buttermilk. The acid curdles the milk, therefore creating a substitute for buttermilk.
How do you thicken maple syrup?
Cornstarch is the best way to thicken your syrup. Mix equal parts cornstarch with equal parts of water. Add it slowly to the syrup and mix it together. This should help thicken the syrup.
