This easy hummus recipe takes just 5 minutes to make in a food processor or high-powered blender. It’s a classic snack that is irresistibly smooth and creamy.
Our recipe makes eight servings for just $0.30 per serving. That is only $2.37 for the entire recipe!
We recommend our Chia Pudding, our Energy Balls, and our Homemade Granola Bars for more healthy snack options.
Hummus is a creamy, smooth, and light, healthy snack that our kids literally eat by the spoonful. It can be served as a dip or a condiment; you really cannot go wrong either way. The fresh and nutty flavor is hard to beat.
We used to buy hummus at the store, but we couldn’t justify the cost any longer. Chickpeas are so dang cheap, so we knew we could make it for a lot less than buying it in the store.
With some chickpeas and a few other ingredients thrown in your food processor, you can now make hummus for pennies in a matter of minutes!
This easy Hummus recipe is super silky smooth and perfect for after-school snacks, mid-morning snacking, parties, and any other occasion!

Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- You can use a high-powdered blender instead of a food processor to make this recipe.
- If you can’t find tahini, then you can use sunflower seed butter.
- To give even more Mediterranean flavor to this easy hummus recipe, you can add in chopped roasted red bell peppers and zucchini.
Storage Tips
Serve: You can keep this at room temperature for about 1-2 hours before it will need to be refrigerated. When serving this at an outdoor event, I like to put a bowl of hummus nestled inside a large bowl of ice. This helps keep it cool for longer.
Store: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freeze: Place hummus in an airtight freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag. Freeze for 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for 1-2 hours.

Get Kids Involved
Ages 2-3: Have your little one help pour the ingredients into the food processor or blender. He/she can also help by getting out the ingredients to dip into the hummus and arranging them on a serving platter.
Ages 4-5: Let your child drizzle the olive oil over the hummus. Our kids love this part!
Ages 6-8: Teach your child how to use a food processor. They can then help by putting the ingredients in and pulsing the processor as they mix them.
Ages 9-11: Supervise them while they prepare the entire recipe. Remember to have them read it twice before beginning the recipe.
Ages 12+: Let them prepare the entire recipe, unsupervised, while you do the happy dance in the corner!
Budget Tips
We like to buy big cans of chickpeas and olive oil at Costco or Sam’s club. We find they have the best prices for these items.
