Can I use evaporated milk instead of condensed milk for easy chocolate fudge?
Unfortunately, you cannot use evaporated milk instead of condensed milk in fudge. You can substitute evaporated milk for regular milk in many instances, but it will not give the same rich, creamy taste that you get from the sweetened condensed milk.

- Melt the chocolate chips in a large saucepan

How to store Sweetened Condensed Milk Fudge
Store: We like to store the finished easy chocolate fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. You can store the fudge in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, but we find that it gets a little dried out in the refrigerator.
Freeze: Place fudge in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.
Easy Chocolate Fudge: Get Kid’s Involved
Ages 2-3: Have your little one measure out the chocolate chips. This is a great time to practice counting!
Ages 4-5: Let your child mix in the vanilla, salt, and nuts after melting the chocolate.
Ages 6-8: Your child can assist in measuring out the ingredients for the recipe. They can also help stir the chocolate while it is melting.
Ages 9-11: Supervise them while they prepare the entire recipe. Remember to have them read it twice before beginning the recipe.
Ages 12+: Let them prepare the entire recipe, unsupervised, while you do the happy dance in the corner!

Can you melt fudge?
Fudge will not melt in the same way that a candy bar will melt. This is because fudge is cooked candy. Cooked candies do not actually melt until they reach about 125 degrees. So it may melt if you live in Arizona, like Beth and Jess! Ha Ha! However, it can soften if it is left in the sun or a warm place.
What is the secret to smooth fudge that is not gritty?
We recommend melting the chocolate in the microwave for one minute and then in thirty-second intervals to avoid burning the chocolate. If the chocolate is scorched during the melting process, it can cause a gritty fudge.
How do I know if my fudge is going to set?
The quickest way to tell if the fudge is going to set is to use a candy thermometer to check the temperature. It should be between 235-240 degrees F.
As you melt and mix the chocolate, it should start to become thicker and glossier in appearance. This is a good sign that it is going to set properly.
You’ll notice the fudge start to set around the edges pretty quickly while it is chilling, which is also a strong indication that it is going to finish setting properly.

Easy Sweetened Condensed Milk Fudge Recipe
Equipment

Ingredients
- 4 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or bittersweet
- 28 ounces sweetened condensed milk (2, 14-ounce cans)
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup walnuts chopped
Instructions
PREP PAN:
- Line an 8-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on all sides.
MAKE FUDGE:
- Add chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk to a large, heavy saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly until the chips are almost completely melted.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir until the chocolate mixture is smooth and creamy. Stir in salt, vanilla, and chopped nuts.
SPREAD AND CHILL:
- Spread the fudge in an even layer into the prepared pan.
- Chill for 2-3 hours or until set.
FINISH:
- Lift the fudge from the pan using the parchment paper overhang.
- Cut the fudge into 32 squares.

You say you can’t make fudge with evaporated milk. Of course you can! I have been making it for years aswell as fudge with condensed milk. They are both delicious just different. The one with condensed milk is sweeter but the one with evap is creamier. I like both as do my three grandsons. It’s just a matter of taste.
